to BB or not to BB..

So.. I've been wanting to try a Beauty Balm (aka BB Cream). I've been hearing all about them and you know I like to stay hip to the trends. You may be wondering, what is Beauty Balm? It's a foundation-primer-moisturizer hybrid and apparently they have been super popular in Asia for years. They are finally catching on here in the U.S.. I hear that they are great for your skin and give you a flawless finish. My only problem is that I can't decide which one to try out.

Here are the options I've found at Sephora

Anyone have BB recommendations for me?

I use the Garnier BB Cream and I love it!! I wear it daily instead of foundation or powder. It keeps my skin hydrated, goes on very smooth, and covers blemishes. I just started using it about a month ago and it is my new favorite!

You should try the BB cream from SKIN79. I personally think these are great!

I haaaaaate the Garnier BB cream. It greases like crazy and the coverage is crap!! I know your face type will hate it. I like the Dr. Jart one from sephora. I want to try a legit Asian BB cream. They are very different than what you might expect so throw out expectations when you use it! Oh and you have to apply some of them a weird way for it to look right.

I have only tried the Garnier too and I hated it. Way too greasy! Let us know what you decide to try and how you like it.

I am a total Stila loyalist, so they have my vote. I'm super interested to hear how the BB works out. I've never heard of it! Do you still wear foundation?

I just purchased the Boscia BB cream...I'll let you know what I think of it!

I've not used the American brands yet, I am in LOVE with the pink Skin79 and I've also used the Lioele Beyond The Solution and water drop bb creams and Liked them as well! I hope you like whichever one you get. I'm trying the Dr JArt one that I got in my birchbox, a little advice though, with most bb creams you will look a little ashy or grey for about 20 min until they oxidize.

I received a sample of the Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse BB in my most recent BirchBox.... I LOVE it. It may not be for everyone, but I really like it. My skin tends to be more on the oily side, so this BB seems great. Not to oily and sheer coverage. I think it's great especially for the summer months.

I've used the Garnier BB cream, Aveeno & ELF. I prefer the Aveeno of all the above, but I like the garnier too. I think the garnier is much heavier - it feels greasy to me. But perhaps it'll be better in the colder months....

Hmm...seems as everyone so far has a different opinion. I haven't tried any yet, but can't wait to hear which one you pick!

I loved th Dr. Brandt BB Cream but sephora no longer carries it. Smashbox I did not like AT ALL! Normally I love everything they have. I vote Dior that's the one on my list to get next to try :)

My sis loves her Garnier BB so you probably can't go wrong with any of the above lux brands! I currently use an Aveeno tinted moisturizer but as soon as that's done, I'd like to try BB as well! I just love the though of less makeup in the summer :)

Can't wait to see which you choose! I almost ordered the Skin79 but hesitated since I haven't done enough research yet. I also considered the Dr Jart but haven't pulled the trigger.

I tried three and settled on Dr. Jart - it's the only one at Sephora that is made in Korea where BB creams gained the majority of their popularity.

I did a big review of BB creams on my blog, check it out here: http://lucky-fifth.blogspot.com/2012/05/product-review-bb-cream.html

Best of luck

I just ordered my first BB cream, but I won't get it until the end of June as it's being shipped from Korea. I did lots of research and it seems the American versions of BB cream pale in comparison to the Asian brands. I've got oily skin, so decided on Skinfood's Peach Sake Pore BB Cream. The Asian brands are less expensive, even with the shipping. There are a few Skinfood stores in the US, but none near me.

I almost went with Clinique's BB cream - that would be my choice for an American BB cream.

I've been using the new Garnier one and really like it!! And I think it was $12 at Target?? STEAL! A little bit goes a long way too! So it'll last awhile (:

I have not heard of this! I may have to look into it. I may try the Clinique.. their products are usually pretty good, IMO.

I use MAC's PRIME. I don't think that it is defined as a BB cream per say, but it fits exactly the description you typed up, and its only $20. I use mine every.single.day. It has 35 SPF in it and it really does make your face look flawless. I love it! (and it lasts forever. I use it daily and it has lasted me since the beginning on January!)

I got the dr. Jart in my birchbox but I haven't tried it yet. I will let you know how it is. Might try it tomorrow. Today for some reason makeup never made it on my face before work! ewww!!

I received the Dr. jart in my Birchbox this month and really liked it. I used it all up and for the first time ordered a full size product!

No help, sister...sorry I suck...but you helped me learn something new today...crazy as it sounds I have not heard of BB before. I am pretty jaded when it comes to trying new stuff on my face. But if you find one you like, make sure to let us know!

Try the smashbox or Stilla. Those are great brands and they usually won't effect your skin in a bad way.

I'm a fan of the Garnier BB Cream. I would definitely try that one if you're on the fence. for $12 it's not a huge loss if you don't like it. For me its somewhere between a tinted moisturizer and a light foundation, so I think it's perfect!

The Garnier BB Cream is the best! I was using a clinique moisturizer but I switched it for this. It makes my skin so even that I barely use any foundation.

BTW, new follower! So excited to start my creep through your archives;)

I got samples of both the Too Faced and the Smashbox and I ultimately ended up with the Smashbox because I didn't like the shade of the Too Faced. I like the Smashbox one, I apply it with a Beauty Blender but I still buff some Bare Minerals on just for a little more coverage. It's a lot quicker than full foundation but I wouldn't say it does everything that it claims to do.

I have been using the Garnier version daily since I purchased it. I love it, but I still think I need the darker color. I've heard great things about Dr. Jart's BB Cream and mixed reviews about the Two Faced version. It's all a matter of personal preference. If you want to test it I'd say go cheap with the Garneir brand and see if you enjoy it then try some others. My biggest word of advice, hit up You Tube for reviews and application how to's etc. There are a lot of women on there with a LOT of opinions, it was very helpful for me!

so i am asian, but never in my life did my mother informed me about these bb creams! i am trying the garnier one and it's okay, i don't like the slight scent only because i am allergic to scents. the smell is not bad or strong, i just prefer it to be non-scented. i saw the clinique one at sephora and i am tempted to try it. however, it is $37. i am fortunate to not have oily skin or any other skin problems (aside from being sensitive) so i don't really need a lot of coverage, so i am hesitant to pay $37 even though i swear on any clinique product. the garnier one also has a dewy finish, so if you have oily skin, make sure you have a mattifying powder.

I love the Garnier BB cream! I've been using it for a while now. It feels amazing, the smell is nice and it makes my skin look flawless. It looks dark when it goes on, but then it blends in with my skin tone. It's so weird but cool haha. I really wanna try the Dr. Jart one too. I've heard great things about it.

I've been interested in checking these out, especially for summer, but I have to have oil-free products, so I'm not sure if any of them will work for me!

I didn't realize what BB cream was. I have heard about it alot in the blog world! I did get the dr. Jart + one in my birchbox and I tried a little of it but I guess i didn't realize what it was for! very cool stuff!

I've never heard of a BB, but I don't wear foundation, so I'm not sure if I would consider it, except I like that there's a tint and it has SPF in it... :)

I just bought the Too Faced tinted BB and I LOVE it. I've been using it for about a week and can really see a difference in my face. I like it because it gives you a clean look with a little bit of a glow, and it doesn't look like you're wearing makeup. I think it also helped to clear up my face, and I had some dry skin around my nose and it's gone. I really recommend it. Let me know if you try any others and what you think!

Amber said...

I also have only tried the Garnier version, and I really like it. It has replaced my normal foundation, and I really like the "dewy" finish... I get a lot of compliments when I go out now
Good luck with your decision...

I've been using the Garnier BB Cream. I have normal/combo skin and I liked it. I'm thinking I'll be trying the Too Faced next as I've heard good things about it.
