REVIEW: Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream- Light/Medium

today i'm going to give my review on garnier's bb cream. you may remember my blog post from a few weeks ago where i talked about wanting to try a bb cream but not being sure where to start. i figured it would be a good idea to start with the least expensive one, even though i figured i'd end up liking a more pricey one more. it just felt silly to skip over the garnier one without giving it a shot. lucky for me, my sweet blog friend, maggie, offered to send it to me!

according to garnier, this bb cream is supposed to fulfill all your skincare needs through one product that combines intense moisturizing skincare and skin perfecting coverage to provide more even, radiant and smooth skin.

here are my thoughts:

pros
-blending: goes on smoothly and blends easily. no issues with streaking.
-value: this product retails for about $12, which is a third as much as the other brands i was looking at. a little goes a long way, so this tube would last a long time.
.
cons
-coverage: in my opinion, this product provides very little coverage- similar to the coverage of a tinted moisturizer. unfortunately, my skin has a lot of redness  and requires more coverage than that. i had a few blemishes that were still very red and visible even after applying more of this product to that area.
-dewy: though a dewy finish may work for some people, it does not work well with my oily skin. even after setting it with a translucent powder, after an hour my face was SO oily.
-smell: this product has a strong scent just like most of garnier's other products.
-shade. there are only two options, i purchased the light/medium version, which worked for me, but if you are very fair-skinned, it would probably not work for you. the same may apply to those with darker skin.

in short, garnier bb cream is not the product for me. it may work well for those with dry skin or those who do not need more coverage. for me, this product was on the same level as a tinted moisturizer. i would consider using it for that purpose, but the tinted moisturizer i currently use has more SPF than the garnier bb cream does. after all i had heard about bb creams, i was expecting more from this product.

looking forward to trying the smashbox camera ready bb cream next!

I bought that too and felt the same way, but I plan to use it as a lotion under my Bare Minerals.

I've been thinking about trying it, but considering I have oily skin and very fair skin, I don't think it'll be for me. Thanks for the review! Can't wait to see what you think about the Smashbox one!

I really want to try a BB cream! I was thinking about this one, but now I'm not quite that sure.

I am glad you did a review on this...I was thinking out picking it up. But now I am not going to! I think it would have a similar affect on my skin too.

I used the Dr. Jart a few times (until my birchbox sample ran out)and although I really liked it coverage wise, I felt like it did leave my skin a little oily. AND I totally broke up with a could of zits after using. But that could have just been timing with a certain time of the month? Not sure. Overall I liked it, but I don't know if I want to spend $30+ on it, and I don't know if I would use it everyday.

I have been seeing this all over blogland too, and wondered about it. Thank you for doing a review on the product!!

I agree with your review! I felt the same way. Might as well try it though. Glad you got yours for free! I will probably use it for lazy days though.

I feel the exact same way about the Garnier. Looks like it is time to try the Smashbox. : )

My sister uses this and loves it! However, I used it and was less than thrilled. I guess it just depends on the person!

Thanks for the review! I was considering this one because of the price but I have a lot of redness also, so you saved me money. I am very eager to see your review for Smashbox!!

I tried out my sample of this yesterday, and pretty much agree with all of your points. Why does Garnier insist on making everything smell so much? Hoping the Smashbox one is better! I love their primer, so fingers crossed!

I'm like you - I have a lot of redness in certain areas of my face. Too bad this didn't work better, with a $12 price tag that'd be great!

I am sorry the Garnier didn't work out. I have been using it for weeks and I often have the same issues as you said. I have to dab extra on my problem areas. I have normal skin so it's not too much of an issue with the dewy feel, but I'm still not 100% on the Garnier. Please review the next kind you try maybe through trial and error we can help each other :)

Thanks for the review, I'll probably stay away from this one. I have a lot of redness too and need more coverage.

I hate to break it to you, but none of the American made BB Creams are actually BB Creams. If it's not from Asia, it's just an over touted tinted moisturizer. If you want a real BB Cream, search for shade from Lioele, Skin79, and Missha. They are real BB Creams, offering both medium to full coverage as well as super skincare properties.

I have to recommend the Skin79 Super+ Pink. I decided on it after scouring tons of reviews. The color is odd at first but then blends right in. Give it a few minutes to settle before deciding if you want powder. I am loving the coverage and smoothness. Also, if you purchase it on Amazon, you can get it for $10-12. It says shipping will take something like 4-6 weeks but then it shows up in your mailbox in only 2.

I'm so glad you reviewed this. It sounds like I'd have all the same prolems with it as you did. Keep us posted if you try another one!

I'm confused. Does BB just stand for Beauty Balm? I can't find exact info online . . . what exactly is BB cream? Sounds like, from reading product descriptions, that it's supposed to be a sort of hybrid of tinted moisturizer, first layer of foundation, and SPF? Enlighten me!!

I totally agree with you! I tried it on at Ulta where I work and I was not impressed. Now I have heard the Smashbox one is amazing, but it's like more than double the price! lol
