birchbox brag link up! (may 2012 box)

today's the day for you to come link up and show us what you got in your birchbox this month!
shout-out to my fab co-host, katie!

in case you've never heard of birchbox, the whole premise is that you pay $10/month and birchbox will send you 4-5 deluxe samples based on the beauty profile you fill out when you sign up.

here's what i got in my may box:

the details:
(descriptions taken from the birchbox website)

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo
We’re hesitant to call this luxurious cleansing oil a shampoo—its powers go far beyond cleansing. Perfect for all hair types and textures, the oil-to-foam formula binds with the grease and product buildup on your scalp before gently whisking them away. At the same time, it respects your hair’s natural oils, so your strands never feel dry or stripped. Finally, it adds bounce and body to your locks while leaving behind a calming yuzu citrus scent. All in all, it’s a true superhero product.

Miracle Skin Transformer™ Body SPF 20
There’s no reason to settle for less than flawless skin—from head to toe. Miracle Skin Transformer, the brand behind the cult concealer, has developed a formula that evens out all our imperfections all over your body. It works as a light moisturizer, SPF 20, and a skin-perfecting tint—curing roughness, hiding blemishes, and even masking scars (good news for the klutzy ones among us). It’s the perfect accessory to that strapless cocktail dress, not to mention all your summer tank tops and shorts.

stila sparkle waterproof liquid eye liner
The trick to rocking sparkly makeup past age 15? Keep it subtle. Infused with pearlized micro-glitter (read: not in-your-face sparkle), these liners work for both day and night. The pen-like applicator makes it easy to apply the waterproof pigments, while a unique polymer keeps the colors vibrant for hours. And when it comes time to remove your makeup, fret not: the oil-soluble formula wipes off easily.

Dior Miss Dior
In 1947, Christian Dior presented his first couture collection, which immediately became a global success. At the same time, he launched his first fragrance, Miss Dior. Dior’s Master Perfumer François Demachy reinterpreted the classic scent, a sweet blend rich in Italian mandarin, Egyptian jasmine, and Indonesian patchouli. Beyond its immediate olfactory appeal, we adore the iconic glass bottle, which comes with a silver couture bow that’s oh-so-Parisian-chic.

Birchbox Notecards
Whoever said a picture is worth a thousand words didn’t appreciate the value of a handwritten note. We designed this light-hearted stationery for all your important correspondence. Each 12-pack comes with four shades—bright orange, marigold yellow, deep purple, and forest green—along with a pack of Birchbox Pink envelopes. Now all you have to do is dig up some stamps.

ok, this was the 'gossip girl' box. i had high expectations. i seriously hoped to open my box and find chuck bass inside. obviously that did not happen. i was thrilled to receive a full size stila eyeliner, but felt kinda 'eh' about the other samples. i am really not a fan of receiving perfumes in my boxes, but it keeps happening. i really wish i had gotten a sample of the BB cream. guess i can't complain too much since i received a full size product valued at over $20!

birchbox brag link up! (april 2012 box)

today's the day for you to come link up and show us what you got in your birchbox this month!
shout-out to my fab co-host, katie!

in case you've never heard of birchbox, the whole premise is that you pay $10/month and birchbox will send you 4-5 deluxe samples based on the beauty profile you fill out when you sign up.

here's what i got in my april box:

the details:
(descriptions taken from the birchbox website)

Befine Gentle Cleanser
Go easy on your skin with this moisturizing cleanser. It whisks away dirt and softens your complexion with a blend of sugar, rice, and oat extracts. And since Befine is known for creating products good enough to eat, you can feel great about using the yummy formula.

dirt. luxe salt scrub - lemon leaf
Dirt sources its ingredients straight from the earth, so it’s no surprise that their signature body scrub is wholesome and downright appetizing. It polishes your skin while replenishing lost moisture with a blend of fine salt particles, fruit extracts, and essential oils. Bothvarieties smell sweet and pack plenty of exfoliating power—lemon leaf has a slightly coarse texture and is laced with raspberry seeds.

Befine Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15
Between hitting the snooze button and deliberating over our wardrobe options, our mornings always seem to turn into a fire drill. But no matter how rushed we are, we always find time to load up on this feather-light hydrator, which works for all skin types. Made with vegetable proteins and essential oils, the paraben-free formula also includes SPF 15 to protect skin from the UV rays that lead to premature aging. On top of that, we can also use it as a protective hand cream.

Vapour Organic Beauty Elixir Lipgloss
It’s sad but true: most lip glosses derive their shine from not-so-hot ingredients like petroleum. But Vapour Organic’s sheer tinted gloss is in a class of its own. It’s made with a yummy plant-based formula that has a light, non-sticky feel. Not only are all the shades supremely flattering, they’re equipped with a moisturizing botanical complex to leave your lips feeling luscious.

Orofluido Elixir
When it comes to evaluating new hair care products, we look for the three S’s: soft, shiny, strong. This fragrant serum delivers all three, making it one of our new favorites. Incidentally, since we’re also suckers for that other big S, scent, we can’t get enough of the amber and vanilla notes that drift up every time we flip our hair.

Le Palais des Thés Tea Bags
The French have elevated beverage brewing to a fine art, and we’re not just talking about their ability to whip up a textbook latte. Hailing from Paris, these premium green tea blends are skillfully crafted to evoke a luxury in a cup. Each variety features fine leaves sourced from Eastern tea-growing countries, but the light, fruity flavors and silken bags are decidedly European chic. Marie Antoinette would approve.

i liked this box. my one complaint is that i really don't like it when birchbox throws some totally random 'bonus' product in the box like tea or detergent. i just think its weird. other than that, i'm really excited to try the products in my box! i had received the befine night cream in a previous box and really liked it, so i'm excited to try these other befine products! also, totally pumped there was a full size lip gloss in this box! i really like the color and like they said in the description, it is not sticky! AND i cannot put into words how excited i am that next month's box is a gossip girl box!! eeeee!!

birchbox brag link up! (march 2012 box)

today's the day for you to come link up and show us what you got in your birchbox this month!
shout-out to my fab co-host, katie!

in case you've never heard of birchbox, the whole premise is that you pay $10/month and birchbox will send you 4-5 deluxe samples based on the beauty profile you fill out when you sign up.

here's what i got in my march box:
the details:
(descriptions taken from the birchbox website)

Twistband Hair Ties
"Back in the day, we used to rock scrunchies like they were our job. But now that we’re grown-ups (kind of), it’s time to graduate to something a bit more sophisticated. These chic hair ties keep hair secure without snagging strands or leaving ugly creases. Best of all, they look as good on our wrists as they do in our ponytail."

Annick Goutal Petite Cherie
"In 1998, Parisian fragrance designer Annick Goutal created this irresistible fragrance for her daughter Camille. It has since become one of her most popular scents. The confident blend of fruity and musky notes is clean and sweet, a scent that embodies purity and boldness."

essie® Luxeffects Nail Polish
"Looking like a disco ball in public is a major don't, which is why we tend to tread softly when it comes to adding shimmer to our looks. After much trial and error (and a few sequin-related disasters), we've discovered that the best way to wear sparkle is on our nails. Enter essie®'s new range of Luxeffects top coats. Worn solo or layered, these multi-dimensional polishes will make you look, feel, and shine like a million bucks."

Shiseido Pureness Oil-Control Blotting Papers
"If there's one thing we've learned from midday mirror check-ups, it's that oily skin can appear when you least expect it. And although the age-old trick of using tissue paper to blot our faces is acceptable in desperate situations, we’ve been searching for a classier quick fix. Thanks to Shiseido's Pureness Oil-Control Blotting Papers, we can say farewell to T-zone terror and hello to shine-free sophistication."

tarte LipSurgence™ lip tint
"It took us a while to learn how to draw inside the lines, but our childhood addiction to coloring books is finally paying off. These user-friendly chubby lip pencils are a goofproof way to lasting, moisturizing color. A cross between a stain and a gloss, each gel-based tint goes on sheer yet stays true for hours. The wearable shades include peaceful, a beige-toned neutral tint; lucky, a soft pink matte tint; and joy, a juicy peach tint. Naturally, our favorite is amused, a bright fuchsia tint."

i was really nervous about opting in for the teen vogue birchbox this month, but i am SO glad that i did! this was BY FAR the best birchbox i've gotten to date! i was absolutely shocked that there were 2 full size products in this box that value at over $30!

birchbox brag link up! (february 2012 box)

today's the day for you to come link up and show us what you got in your birchbox this month!
shout-out to my fab co-host, katie!

in case you've never heard of birchbox, the whole premise is that you pay $10/month and birchbox will send you 4-5 deluxe samples based on the beauty profile you fill out when you sign up.

here's what i got in my february box:
the details:
(descriptions taken from the birchbox website)

Eye Rock Designer Liner
"As much as we love winged liner, we’re not so crazy about how much effort it usually requires. Shaky wrists and runny liquid formulas conspire to drain our time and energy, which is why we’re glad we discovered these handy stick-on appliques. Each pack comes with four different designs, ranging from classic cat eyes to bold runway-inspired styles."

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant®
"Forget the abrasive alternatives: Dermalogica’s bestselling, award-winning formula uses rice bran and powerful natural enzymes to buff away your skin’s outer layers without any redness or irritation. Just add water to the unique powder to activate its superstar ingredients. Best of all, you can use it every day to keep your skin clear of the dead cells that can dull your complexion and cause breakouts."

Supersmile Powdered Mouthrinse
"We brush our teeth twice a day without fail, but we always find ourselves in a bit of a bind right after snacks and meals. Since our penchant for noshing shows no signs of abating, we freshen our breath with these convenient mouthwash packets. They’re filled with a proprietary powder that neutralizes odors while gently removing surface stains—just add water to the pouch to create a single-dose rinse."

Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum
"Unless you won the genetic lottery, chances are you’ll be battling occasional pimples long into adulthood. Whenever you feel blemishes emerging, strike back with this organic fruit acid-based serum. Not only does it unclog your pores, but it also lightens scars, sunspots, and any other discoloration."

Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint
"Our entire team (minus the manfolk) is obsessed with Jouer’s Luminizing Moisture Tint and we're not alone — Allure recently gave the product its coveted "Best in Beauty" seal.  The oil-free formula feels positively weightless on but gives you plenty of even coverage. Skin looks soft and dewy and, thanks to SPF 20, you’ll be extra protected from the sun."

i was REALLY excited about every single thing in my box this month! the only thing that would have made it better is if that beauty blender foundation sponge was in it!

my thoughts on birchbox- january 2012 box.

in case you've never heard of birchbox, the whole premise is that you pay $10/month and birchbox will send you 4-5 deluxe samples based on the beauty profile you fill out when you sign up.

i got my birchbox in the mail yesterday and i have to say that i am VERY pleased with this month's box! i am looking forward to trying out these samples and i am SO excited that there was nail polish in my box! lol. i'm just a little bit obsessed with nail polish! :)

here's what i got:

the details:
(descriptions taken from the birchbox website)

Befine Night Cream
"It’s easy to blow off nighttime skincare routines, but your PM products are just as important – if not more – than your daytime ones. Our skin does the bulk of its repair work overnight, which means you should slather on the potent products before your head hits the pillow. We love this light cream, which uses cocoa and rice bran to heal and hydrate skin."

Juicy Couture - Juicy Couture
"Life is too short to wear boring fragrance. This youthful blend of fruity and floral notes is designed to make you feel fabulous, even if the most exciting thing on your calendar is laundry. Accordingly, the glamorous glass bottle comes bedecked with playful charms. One spritz and you’re ready for anything."

Zoya Feel Collection
"Don’t save the pastels for spring — these ladylike shades are winter’s biggest nail trend. Zoya’s Feel Collection features six muted neutrals that will keep you fresh even when it’s chilly outside. Each has a unique personality: Avery is a warm honey beige; Kennedy is a pink-toned sand; and Kendal is a pale lavender. On the cooler side of the spectrum, Megan is a taupe gray; Carey is a sophisticated periwinkle; and Kristen is a lovey light blue. The long-lasting formula goes on opaque and dries to a glossy cream finish."

VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything Eye Serum
"We want our eye products to work as hard as we do, putting in overtime to zap puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines. This anti-aging eye serum is our kind of Type A overachiever. The lab-perfected formula firms and revives the delicate under eye area with a powerful dose of naturally derived actives. Over time, skin is renewed and revitalized (hence the name!)."

LÄRABAR Mini Bars
"Whenever we get a craving for something sweet, we turn to these all-natural snack bars. Not only do they taste yummy, they’re also good for you. Made without preservatives and fillers, they come in fun flavors like Blueberry Muffin, Carrot Cake, Peanut Butter Cookie, and (our favorite) Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough."

my thoughts on birchbox.

i have been hearing bloggers talk about birchbox for months now. i have heard good reviews and bad reviews, so i decided to try it out. i subscribed on a month-by-month basis, that way i am don't have to make a long term commitment and i can cancel at any time.

the whole premise is that you pay $10/month and birchbox will send you 4-5 deluxe samples based on the beauty profile you fill out when you sign up.

so here's what i got in my first birchbox:

DETAILS:
Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss
"This gorgeous gloss conquers both dry lips and ho-hum style in a single, shimmery swoop. The shades may look pigmented but they go on sheer, and the ultra-shiny finish makes lips look fuller."

kate spade new york Twirl
"kate spade new york’s charming designs are meant to be playful, feminine, and joyful — the same goes for the brand’s signature scent. Attention-getting without being overpowering, Twirl is an incredibly versatile fragrance. The fruity floral is as suitable for the office as it is for a cocktail party. And just like everything else in the kate spade new york universe, Twirl makes you feel instantly more pulled together and ladylike."

Incoco® Nail Polish Appliqué
"Let’s be honest—it’s annoying to wait for your nails to dry. These nail polish strips make it easy to get a flawless manicure without worrying about smudging or streaking. They come in a range of styles, from simple solid colors to out-there designs (leopard, anyone?). Best of all, the strips last up to two weeks and comes off with regular polish remover."

Showstoppers® Designer Fashion Tape in Nude
"Keep peekaboo bra straps and rebellious hems in check with these double-sided fashion tape strips. A secret tool in every celeb stylist’s arsenal, they stop the big reveal before it happens. We keep a pack of these strips in our desk drawer at all times. Think of them as your wardrobe’s little helpers."

BY TERRY Hyaluronic Face Glow
"In our daily quest to fake perfect skin, we’ve been guilty of layering on the foundation more than we’d like to admit. That’s why we love this tinted makeup base, which keeps us from going overboard by giving us a flawless second skin. A cross between a primer and an extra-light foundation, the mousse-like formula fills in fine lines and minimizes pores — without making us look like we’re wearing masks. Plus, the subtle floral perfume makes us feel oh so chic."

EBOOST Orange Natural Energy Booster
"These fizzy energy packets will bring out your inner Energizer bunny. Loaded with vitamins, minerals, and a dose of natural caffeine, they dissolve in water to create a tasty orange tonic."

my thoughts:
  • i am really looking forward to trying the Nail Polish Appliqués! they look fun and i'm interested to see how long they last compared to regular nail polish!
  • i am very happy with the size of the same of BY TERRY Hyaluronic Face Glow. it sounds like an awesome product and the sample allows for several uses to really determine if this is a product i would want to buy in a full size.
  • believe it or not, i've never tried double-sided fashion tape, so the Showstoppers® Designer Fashion Tape is something that i look forward to trying.
  • i will give the EBOOST Orange Natural Energy Booster a try. however, this is not the type of product i would ever buy regularly.
  • i have received a kate spade new york Twirl sample for free with my last 2 ulta orders, so i was not excited at all to receive this sample. i would have been happy if it were any other perfume that i am not as familiar with.
  • i really look forward to trying the Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss. i will definitely buy a full size one if i like it. my only complaint is that the size of this sample is SO SMALL. let me show you how it sizes up compared to a thing of chapstick:

overall, i am pleased. i plan on continuing to subscribe to birchbox on a month-by-month basis. i will cancel my subscription immediately if i am ever completely disappointed with the box.

do you subscribe to birchbox??
